Praise God for this simple truth; In Christ Jesus we live eternal…
If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation (Romans 10:9-10). NASB

Bethany, thank you for the comment. I share your concerns, and that is why I was actually reluctant to write on anything political as I tend to stay out of wrangling and partisanship. I would consider myself to be politically moderate, but I do look at everything through a biblical/moral/ethical lens, and I just felt compelled to write on the moral/ethical implications of big government, which really is not indicative of some veiled endorsement of any party. If you get to know me and read the rest of my posts, I think you'll find this to be true of me.

I must admit that I read things perhaps more suspiciously than other believers as I have been the strangest amongst us: A Christian and a liberal leaning independent. I also happend to be an English teacher, so forgive me if it seems as if I am splitting hairs, but:
Is intimating that small government is more positive and saying that small government is represented by conservative viewpoints essentially calling it Republican with out using the label?
I am moving to Phoenix this summer and the last thing I want to be apart of again is a church with admittedly great people, but where the Republican party is referred to in only thinly veiled ways as the party of god.
As a believer, I cannot wholly support one party or another. Therefore, I pick none. I do vote- it gives me the right to complain and I like that :-).

Thanks, Norma. Yes, I have been on the receiving end of hateful vitriol because of my biblical beliefs about this issue, so I can relate to your "encounter". Jesus said that the world would hate us for our beliefs because it hated Him too. At least we're in good company.

I just had a challenging "encounter" with a friend on FB after I posted about JCPenney's advertising a homosexual (lesbian) relationship in their recent magazine/catalog. (You can look at the context on my wall of the 4/28 post.) Reading your blog this morning gave me a boost of encouragement and I greatly appreciate your perspective. I know you've been personally attacked before for your public stance, and had little support. Just wanted you to know I so appreciate your vulnerability in standing on the truth of God's Word one more time.... - Thanks, Kent.

Well, I certainly agree with Paul on that point. And I agree with much of what you say, though I come to a different conclusion about the fairness of Christianity's prescription for homosexuals. Thank you for your gracious responses and enjoy your weekend, Kent.

I hear you, Kyle. And, I can understand why you would feel as though God doesn't love homosexuals since He doesn't permit them to express themselves sexually. But, it's important to know that He does allow them to express themselves in other non-sexual ways. What I mean is that they can have their needs for intimacy met through great friendships. David and Jonathan are a great example of two guys who loved each other but in a completely platonic way. It even says that they loved each other even more than the women in their lives, which means that they could express their affection toward each other but in ways that pleased God. Kyle, there are many ways to give and receive love without sex, and many people throughout the ages, homosexual and heterosexual, have learned to find great fulfillment in their relationships without violating God's command. Remaining celibate is not a bad way of life. In fact, Paul says that singleness may even be preferable!

But God doesn't instruct homosexuals to direct their urges anywhere--the mandate is to suppress them. Why aren't they given a covenant which they can enter into and consummate their love--which is just as real as heterosexual love--with their partner? The fact remains that heterosexuals are given a gift by God that homosexuals are not. Is it because He loves them less? Is it fair for God to love some more than He loves others?
